Australia shows consumer price growth declining at the end of 2014. The next CPI update (Q1 2015), at end of April, is likely to reflect further slowing.

Declining inflation expectations reported by Westpac (in the 0 to 5% range) tend to support this.

  1. CPI going down and yet the cost of living is rising.

The regular changes to the method of calculating CPI make it an increasingly unreliable statistic.

  2. I see a solid support base here. Consumer spending will rise over the next 2 years because of low interest rates for sure

  3. A close friend and myself are both looking for in Melbourne. I’ve just moved interstate and my friend had the contract finish. With the job searches we have done the both of us are amazed at how far the wages have dropped for our profession’s (He’s in IT and I’m in procurement). Deflation is definitely happening here!
