The message of the “end of history” was not just that capitalism was now a permanent feature but also that there was nothing of importance left to learn. So the Pirate is surprised and delighted to see Francis has not only discovered politics but also humility. We should respect him all the more for that.
“Raising the bar” will require us to rediscover learning also. Are we up for it?
