The habit of ubiquitous interventionism, combining pinprick strikes by precision weapons with pious invocations of high principle, would lead us into endless difficulties. Interventions must be limited in number and overwhelming in their impact.

The more we descend into special interest politics, the more we will see such intervention. The more people call for the government to “fix” a problem, the more the power hungry politician and bureaucrat will step in to “serve the wishes of the populace”, thus entrenching their positions of power. The more they do that, the more they need to do it, and so we spiral down.
