If you want to be a great leader,
\nyou must learn to follow the Tao.
\nStop trying to control,
\nLet go of fixed plans and concepts,
\nand the world will govern itself.
\nThe more prohibitions you have,
\nthe less virtuous people will be.
\nThe more weapons you have,
\nthe less secure people will be.
\nThe more subsidies you have,
\nthe less self-reliant people will be.
\nTherefore the Master says:
\nI let go of the law,
\nand people become honest.
\nI let go of economics,
\nand people become prosperous.
\nI let go of religion,
\nand people become serene.
\nI let go of all desire for the common good,
\nand the good becomes common as grass.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Taoism identifies the following five principles of leadership<\/a>:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. If leaders have no clear direction they will confuse their followers. To achieve clarity of mind<\/em>, eliminate the unnecessary.<\/li>\n
  2. A clear mind leads to simplicity<\/em> in thought and action.<\/li>\n
  3. A good leader is adaptable. Like water, they are yielding and pliable but “yielding water dissolves the hardest stone.”<\/li>\n
  4. A good leader reflects the will of the people. They pay attention and listen. They follow, rather than lead.<\/li>\n
  5. A good leader is sparing in exerting authority. They know when to stand aside and not interfere.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The best leaders are those their people hardly know exist……<\/p>\n

    The best leaders value their words, and use them sparingly.
    \nWhen they have accomplished their task,
    \nthe people say, \u201cAmazing!
