A leading Hong Kong politician was stripped of his seat on China\u2019s main advisory body after contradicting Beijing\u2019s views, in another step to quiet dissent during month-long protests in the former British colony.<\/p>\n

The Chinese People\u2019s Political Consultative Conference voted Wednesday to boot Hong Kong lawmaker and businessman James Tien, who last week called on the city\u2019s chief executive to resign over his handling of demonstrations seeking freer elections.<\/p>\n

Mr. Tien, the head of Hong Kong\u2019s pro-business Liberal Party, was removed over \u201cimproper remarks,\u201d according to China\u2019s state-run Xinhua News Agency.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
