But the ratio fell to 0.42 post-GFC and has only recovered to 0.435. We are still 3.5% below the high from 14 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>When we focus on male employment, ages 25 to 54, we exclude several obscuring factors:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the rising participation rate of women;<\/li>\n<li>an increasing <em>baby-boomer<\/em> retiree population; and<\/li>\n<li>changes in the student population under 25.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" width=\"525\" height=\"349\" alt=\"Employment Rate Men 25 to 54\" title=\"Employment Rate Men 25 to 54\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.incrediblecharts.com\/images\/2014\/2014-07-29-emp-men-25to54.png?resize=525%2C349&#038;ssl=1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The chart still displays a dramatic long-term fall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US unemployment has fallen close to the Fed&#8217;s &#8220;natural unemployment rate&#8221; of close to 5.5%.
